TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Drivers in Midtown Tallahassee can expect roadwork on Sixth Avenue later this month as the city begins a resurfacing project aimed at improving commutes through the area.
The City of Tallahassee will start resurfacing Sixth Avenue from Thomasville Road to Magnolia Drive on July 27. Work hours will generally be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Traffic is expected to continue moving along the corridor during construction. The city plans to close one lane at a time as work progresses, keeping one lane open to maintain traffic flow. Drivers are urged to slow down near the work zone and avoid distractions.
The Sixth Avenue resurfacing follows recent work on Seventh Avenue, where the city completed resurfacing after major underground utility upgrades. Those upgrades included rehabilitation of sections of the sanitary sewer system, upgrading 4,500 feet of water main, replacing fire hydrants and additional improvements. The Seventh Avenue work represented a more than $3.3 million investment to strengthen critical infrastructure.
