Man convicted of DUI in 2 states accused of Cape Coral hit-and-run, faces fourth DUI charge
CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
A convicted DUI driver in Cape Coral is accused of leaving the scene of a crash he caused while under the influence, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.
In an arrest report, CCPD says that officers responded to the scene of a hit-and-run crash near the 1200 block of Hancock Bridge Parkway East on July 15. Someone at the scene of the crash was able to get a photo of the car that left the scene, which included the license plate number.
In a sworn statement, the reporting party told officers that she was driving on Hancock Bridge Parkway when the other car sideswiped her vehicle. The other driver did not remain at the scene.
Officers found the vehicle within five minutes of the crash. The driver, Mark Wright, 58, reportedly told CCPD that he had not been involved in a crash. While speaking with Wright, officers reported signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and coordination problems.
Wright did not pass field sobriety tests, and was arrested, according to the report. After his arrest, CCPD says Wright submitted a breath sample that had a BAC of .269%.
Wright faces charges of DUI, DUI with damage to property and leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property.
