The St. Petersburg Police Department is on the scene of a shooting at the YMCA in Childs Park.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Two young men were hurt in a shooting Wednesday afternoon at the Childs Park YMCA in St. Pete.

Police responded at 2:09 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the YMCA on 43rd Street South. Officers found a young man shot in the bathroom before safely clearing the building. He was transported to the hospital.

Another young man later showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound, Ashley Limardo, the St. Pete Police Department’s public information specialist, said. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Limardo did not share information about a suspect but said police do not believe there is any danger to the community.

“Our concern right now is for our team inside. And we’re here to support the police in anyway we can,” Suzanne Delaney, the chief advancement officer for the greater St. Petersburg YMCA, told 10 Tampa Bay News.
