ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Organizers of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg have already set the stage for another major motorsports weekend in 2027.
Green Savoree Racing Promotions announced Thursday that the 23rd annual Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg will be held March 5-7, 2027, once again featuring the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season opener and the return of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series to the downtown Florida street circuit.
The announcement solidifies one of North America’s most unique motorsports weekends, bringing together INDYCAR and NASCAR competition on the same temporary street course along St. Petersburg’s waterfront.
The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series is scheduled to race Saturday, March 6, marking its second appearance on the circuit after making history in 2026 as the first NASCAR national series to compete on a street course.
Last season’s debut proved highly successful, with Layne Riggs capturing the victory in the OnlyBulls Green Flag 150 while drawing significant national attention to the event and creating a new chapter in NASCAR’s street-racing history.
The 2026 weekend also showcased INDYCAR’s biggest stars, as four-time series champion Alex Palou opened his title defense with a second consecutive victory in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
According to Green Savoree Racing Promotions officials, the combination of INDYCAR and NASCAR delivered record-setting interest and attendance throughout the three-day event.
“The 2026 event was our best yet,” said Kim Green, co-owner, chairman and CEO of Green Savoree Racing Promotions. “Spectator attendance was tremendous on all three days to witness history made with the NASCAR Trucks racing for the first time on a street circuit and INDYCAR kicking off its season once again.”
The Firestone Grand Prix has long served as one of INDYCAR’s signature events and traditionally opens the championship season. Since debuting in 2005, the race has become a staple of the series schedule, combining high-speed racing with a scenic downtown backdrop featuring waterfront sections, airport runways and challenging city streets.
The addition of the NASCAR Truck Series has expanded the event’s appeal beyond traditional open-wheel fans, creating a multi-discipline racing festival that attracts spectators from across the country.
For race fans, the 2027 schedule ensures that both premier attractions will remain together for another year, offering an action-packed weekend featuring two of America’s top national touring series.
Tickets for the 2027 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg are expected to go on sale this fall, with organizers planning additional event announcements and updates in the coming months.
