PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 21-year-old man is behind bars after being accused of lewd and lascivious battery on a child, authorities said Friday.

According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began July 10 after deputies responded to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center at the request of the Port St. Lucie Police Department, which was assisting the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Investigators determined the alleged crime occurred within the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office’s jurisdiction, and the case was assigned to sheriff’s office detectives.

Deputies said the investigation led to the arrest of Shardwensly Aristill, of Port St. Lucie. He was charged with lewd or lascivious battery on a child between the ages of 12 and 16.

Aristill is being held without bond at the St. Lucie County Jail.
