Family still searching for driver who hit 11-year-old riding e-scooter on Orlando sidewalk
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —
An Orlando father is urging the driver who hit his 11-year-old son while he was riding an e-scooter to come forward.
The crash happened last Sunday afternoon on Colonial Drive. Nearly one week later, the Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating.
“I just don’t know why he hasn’t turned himself in,” Raymond Marin said. “My message to (the driver) is just, turn yourself in. An accident happened, but you should have stayed.”
Raymond’s son, Josiah Marin, said he went to grab a drink at the gas station near his home around 2 p.m. on July 19. He rode his e-scooter on the sidewalk. On his way back, he said a car pulling out of a parking lot hit him near Pel Street.
“I guess they didn’t see me,” Josiah said. “It went out and hit me.”
Raymond said he heard the driver ask his son if he was OK before driving away. Josiah now has a broken arm and bruising.
“Now, we’re dealing with the consequences of what happened,” Raymond said. “I called the police, and I got FHP involved, and we’ve been trying to find the driver ever since.”
On Friday, a spokesperson for FHP told WESH 2 that the crash remains an active criminal investigation.
As the Marin family waits for someone to come forward, they’re calling on all drivers to be more aware.
“I’m glad nothing else. It could have been his head. I could have gotten another phone call, God forbid,” Raymond said. “There’s kids out there with e-bikes with e-scooters. It’s a different world now.”
