2 teens killed, 2 hospitalized in 3-vehicle crash in Jacksonville
Two teenagers are dead after a three-vehicle crash in Jacksonville’s Lake Forest neighborhood on Saturday, July 25.
The crash occurred about 11:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of Edgewood Ave. W., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
A man, who police described as a man in his 50s, was driving a Dodge 3500 pickup truck eastbound on Edgewood, towing a large steel trailer loaded with two vehicles, JSO said in a news release. The Dodge struck the rear of a Toyota Camry sedan, which then hit the rear of a Ford Ranger pickup truck.
The Dodge pushed the Camry through the intersection before coming to rest on top of the Camry.
The car’s driver was freed from the wreckage and taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was listed in critical condition late Saturday afternoon, JSO said. Two male teenage passengers were found dead inside the Camry.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was hospitalized in stable condition, JSO said.

“We’re still working on exactly how all this took place, and that will take some time to come through,” Sgt. R.C. Hungerford told Times-Union news partner First Coast News. “We do not have speeds yet; it will take some time to make those calculations. I would say that a Dodge 3500 ripped through a car, almost all the way to the front of it, and landed on top of it. Now, it’s carrying a great deal of weight, and it was going down a hill, but I would think that speed is going to play a factor in this. Speed or braking, maybe both.”
The driver of the Dodge was cooperating with investigators.
According to JSO, the accident marked the 106th and 107th traffic fatalities in Duval County this year.

Through July 16, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported 95 fatalities in 11,431 crashes this year in Duval County. In Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties, 125 fatalities in 15,043 crashes were reported during the same time frame.
