But did you know that you can actually unlock a hidden mode on one of the attractions if you score so badly? Let’s talk about how you can unlock a secret mode and which attraction you can find it on…and yes, I’m really outing myself here.
Super Nintendo World is home to several themed rides, including Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. On this attraction, guests will put on special goggles and steer through the iconic Mario Kart courses alongside Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach.
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge
During your ride, you’ll be a part of Team Mario, collecting digital coins and throwing shells to try to defeat Team Bowser and win the Golden Cup. Every time I’ve ridden this attraction, Team Mario has won…well, until now.

Let’s be clear… I did not lose — I would NEVER score low enough where Mario WOULDN’T win, but I have heard of someone who has… (wink, wink; nudge, nudge)
Inside the queue
When you play the game, everyone in your car will get points based on how well you navigate the course, if you get boosters along the way, and the number of coins you collect. If you can collect over 100 coins, congrats — you and the rest of Mario’s Team win!

But if your team manages to collect less than 100 coins, Team Bowser will take the podium, and you’ll be serenaded with the iconic ‘womp womp’ Super Mario Bros. soundtrack.

This hidden mode can only be unlocked if EVERYONE collectively scores under 100 coins. If you want to experience this secret mode on purpose, we suggest doing it with your whole party, so you don’t alter the experience for others. Each Mario Kart holds four guests, so if you have a group of four and don’t mind losing, go for it — although you’d never find me throwing a competition.
