FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—A man is in the Lee County Jail charged with second-degree murder after a deadly shooting at a Fort Myers apartment complex.
Fort Myers police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Willian Rosa Do’Amaral. Investigators said he surrendered to Lee County deputies and faces a second-degree murder charge.
Police said the victim and the suspect knew each other, and they believe this was an isolated incident.
Officers responded to the 2800 block of Winkler Avenue just before 8 a.m. after getting reports of gunshots. When they arrived, they found an adult victim who had died from an apparent gunshot wound.
Throughout the day, detectives processed the scene at Village Creek Apartments as neighbors and family members watched from behind police tape. Under Marsy’s Law, police are not releasing the victim’s identity.
A family friend told WINK News the victim is a woman. Neighbors said this is a devastating situation.
“I just hope they find out, you know, a resolution. All that. It’s just sad that somebody had to pass,” neighbor Mike McMahon said.
Fort Myers police said their investigation remains active. They’re asking anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact them or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers.
