A woman was hospitalized early Sunday after her car and a Brightline train collided on the tracks in Fort Lauderdale, a fire rescue official said.
Shortly before midnight, someone called 911 reporting the crash with a southbound Brightline train on the tracks at the Sunrise Boulevard crossing, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesperson Frank Guzman said in a statement Monday afternoon.
The impact dragged the woman’s car to the area of Northeast 4th Avenue and Flagler Drive, according to Guzman, which is several blocks from the Sunrise Boulevard intersection.
The driver was injured but able to get out of her car on her own, Guzman said. When officers and firefighters arrived, she was on the ground next to her car.
She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with serious injuries.
Guzman on Monday said he did not have further information about the circumstances of the crash.
Spokespersons for Brightline did not respond to an email seeking further information Monday.
