ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority is celebrating St. Pete’s iconic 727 area code with the debut of route 727. It’s a first-of-its-kind express service connecting downtown St. Petersburg directly to Tampa International airport.
Now, officials said this will give people an easier way to get to the airport and also a more convenient way to get to the 727.

“Getting to the airport will be easier, more reliable, and less stressful than ever before,” Brad Miller, PSTA CEO said.
Miller said great transit connects people with opportunities.
“I think there are a lot of destinations in Florida so if we can get transportation to go everywhere that’s going to be good for everybody,” Juan Betancourt said.
Soon, three buses will pick up passengers at nine stops throughout downtown St. Petersburg. PSTA said riders will be able to catch route 727 near the waterfront and at several downtown SunRunner stations. It’s meant to make travel not only easy, but affordable.
“It also gives our nearly 11,000 employees who work at TPA a sizable number who live in St. Petersburg and Pinellas County another great option to get to and from work,” Michael Stephens, TPA CEO said.
Officials said the new route will cut travel time across the Bay by using the Howard Frankland express lanes, providing a direct connection to Tampa International Airport.
“We haven’t connected enough in our own backyard and now we are putting our region together. We are connecting people not just to jobs, not just to opportunities but also to the nightlife and restaurants and all of the things on both sides of the Bay that are now more accessible,” Hillsborough County Commissioner Harry Cohen said.
