SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — WINK News Weather Authority meteorologists are tracking an area of deep tropical moisture and a persistent onshore wind that will increase rain chances across Southwest Florida today and through the week.
Monday
Today’s rains are washing out as we speak, with none of our counties seeing anything of significance right now. The remainder of the evening should remain clear, with solely leftover clouds cluttering the horizon as the sun sets. Tomorrow, there’s a chance we see some coastal storms develop around daybreak time.
This is all thanks to an unseasonably strong front and dip in the jet stream reaching down to aggravate the local weather pattern some. We’re going to be swapping from northerly winds to a direction almost straight out of the Gulf. That will bully what showers and storms do fire up across the viewing area toward our inland counties. It will also help heighten the risk for rip currents and rough seas right along the shoreline.
Tuesday
Tuesday begins on a wetter note with scattered showers and storms (40% coverage) during the morning commute. Scattered storms (60% coverage) will continue through much of the day, bringing the potential for heavy rain and gusty winds. Afternoon highs will remain in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
Wednesday
Wednesday won’t be quite as wet as Tuesday morning, but isolated showers and storms (30% coverage) remain possible during the morning. Storm coverage will increase to scattered (50% coverage) through the midday and afternoon hours. Expect another breezy day with wind gusts up to 30 mph. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s.
No threats for severe weather currently, but we’ll keep an eye open as dynamics evolve. We’ll be beneath a pretty volatile pattern, and unseasonably strong as mentioned previously. Overall, as we look ahead the next seven days should be breezy and give a lot of southwest Florida a better chance at receiving some beneficial rainfall, especially after a few steps were taken backward in last weeks drought monitor.
