A woman is facing several charges after she allegedly stole tens of thousands of dollars from a man she met at a restaurant in Miami.
Cassandra Thompson, 35, is charged with grand theft, money laundering, unlawful use of a communication device, and offense against computer users to defraud, according to an arrest warrant.
The case against Thompson goes back to December 2024, when a man told Miami Police he took her back to his apartment after meeting her at Gekko in Brickell.
He said he felt unwell after Thompson made him a drink, the warrant said, and the next thing he remembered, he woke up to his cellphone missing, along with $10,000 in cash.
The man told police he tracked his cellphone to New York, where police say Thompson flew just hours after the crime.
He reported more than $84,000 in losses, including the cash and nearly $73,000 in cryptocurrency from his account.
Thompson was booked into jail in Miami-Dade and was issued a $25,000 bond, according to online records.
