Misty Barnes quits Miami job
MIAMI, Okla. – Embattled Miami city attorney Misty Barnes has resigned from her position, Miami City Mayor Bless Parker confirmed on Monday.
Parker said she tendered her resignation on Friday, effective immediately.

Barnes’ contract was discussed and tabled during May’s council meeting and narrowly approved by a 3-2 vote during the June meeting.
She came under fire for her alleged role in releasing a minor’s photograph to a social influencer, who then posted it online, in relation to a fatal crash. The photo was then shared widely online.
In a public comment at May’s city council meeting, Cori Stotts, the juvenile’s mother, addressed the council, calling out Barnes for sharing confidential information. Stotts called the information shared online “inaccurate and harmful.”
A screenshot on the social influencer’s page of Stotts’ daughter shows it reportedly came from Barnes. Reportedly, Barnes said she shared the video to verify the juvenile’s parents and grandparents.
The Stotts family has publicly disagreed with the statement, saying the photograph was shown for “malicious and retaliatory purposes.”
Barnes was hired in January 2025. Her background included a former prosecutor. She also has a criminal defense and family law background. She received the Clarence Darrow Award for criminal defense in 2018.
