Lois Frankel and Victoria Doyle debate for Florida’s District 23 seat
RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. —
A candidates’ forum in Riviera Beach Monday night turned into a one-on-one debate between the top two Democratic candidates for one of Florida’s newly redistricted Congressional seats.
“I am fighting for an affordable America,” Congresswoman Lois Frankel told the crowd
“I am the progressive change candidate in this race,” Victoria Doyle said.
When We All Vote Palm Beach County Voting Squad hosted the forum and invited all six candidates for the seat, both Republicans and Democrats.
However, only Congresswoman Lois Frankel and congressional candidate Victoria Doyle attended the forum, allowing the two to debate each other about what’s best for Florida’s future.
“What we don’t need right now is more of the same,” Doyle said.
“Public service, folks, is not about making fancy speeches. It’s about improving people’s lives, and I’m working hard to do that,” Frankel said.
Both candidates noted that they agree on many issues, including criticism of President Donald Trump, Republicans, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the war in Iran.
“They have failed to pass meaningful legislation that actually helps the majority of Americans,” Doyle said.
“I have voted for the war powers resolution five times now to stop this war. Five times,” Frankel said.
Frankel leaned on her experience in Congress, while Doyle repeatedly emphasized the need for new leadership.
Frankel outlined her priorities, saying, “I’m going to fight to move those tax dollars away from war, away from ICE, and toward affordable housing and affordable healthcare.”
“When I get to Congress, I’ll be the activist I am. The activist. A leader,” Doyle said.
Florida’s primary is on Aug. 18.
