Help us preserve a piece of South Florida history

Call for photos, objects and stories
As part of Village of Pinecrest’s 30th anniversary, Pinecrest Gardens is developing Wings, Scales & Wonder: Pinecrest’s Legacy of Living Attractions, a special exhibition celebrating three of South Florida’s most beloved attractions—Parrot Jungle, the Miami Serpentarium, and Rare Bird Farm. Spanning the mid-1930’s through the early 2000’s, the exhibition will explore the pioneering visionaries, remarkable animals, and unforgettable experiences that helped establish South Florida as an international destination for nature, conservation, education, and family adventure.

To help tell this story, we are inviting the community to share the memories and memorabilia that brought these places to life. Whether through a donation or temporary loan, your treasured keepsakes can help preserve this important chapter of our region’s history for future generations.

We are seeking a wide variety of items, including:
● Admission tickets, brochures, maps, and guidebooks.
● Souvenir programs, postcards, decals, patches, and pennants.
● T-shirts, hats, pins, toys, and collectible merchandise.
● Photographs of family visits and special occasions.
● Home movies, slides, or vintage postcards.
● Newspaper clippings, advertisements, and promotional materials.
● Employee uniforms, name badges, manuals, or photographs.
● Animal feeding cups, souvenir cups, signage, or attraction memorabilia.
● Personal letters, scrapbooks, diaries, or stories connected to the attractions.
● Any other artifacts that capture the spirit of Parrot Jungle, the Miami Serpentarium, Rare Bird Farm, or other South Florida living attractions from the era.

Do you have photographs posing with Pinky, feeding flamingos, watching the famous bird shows beneath the banyan trees, visiting the Serpentarium’s legendary venom milking demonstrations, or exploring the Rare Bird Farm? We’d love to hear your stories and see your memories.

Every photograph, artifact, and personal recollection helps tell the story of the people, animals, and places that inspired generations of visitors and continue to shape Pinecrest Gardens today.

Share Your Story
Email your photographs, memories, or information about artifacts available for donation or temporary loan to info@pinecrestgardens.org. Please include your name, a brief description of the item, and any known dates or stories associated with it.

Selected submissions may be featured in the exhibition, on Village of Pinecrest social media channels, and in future historical publications celebrating the legacy of South Florida’s living attractions.

Together, we can preserve these remarkable stories and ensure that the wonder of these iconic destinations continues to inspire generations to come.
