Plumbing problems and the resulting olfactory assault shut down a shopping mall Subway on Friday.
Failing to properly execute all aspects of modern plumbing has become a weekly thing at Cutler Bay’s Southland Mall, 20505 S. Dixie Hwy. Sweet Bubble was shut down the previous week after an inspector found it had been without water for several days.

Only nine total violations, one of them “high priority,” marred Thursday’s routine inspection at the Subway. But a high priority one will get a restaurant closed instantly.
The inspector wrote: “Sewage water was coming up from the floor drain once I started the water in the handwash sink in the preparation area by the three-compartment sink. The area where the water is backing up cannot be contained. The backup is in the preparation area by the three-compartment sink.”
That resulted in an “objectionable odor … at the kitchen area … once the water sewage backed up from the floor,” and standing water next to the three-compartment sink.
Up at the ice machine, there was an “accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine/bin.”
The manager wore “no hair restraint while engaged in food preparation.”
The Subway passed inspection on Saturday and reopened.
