Fort Pierce resident shares concerns over proposed mega yacht marina at Museum Pointe

Residents and history advocates in Fort Pierce are raising concerns over a proposed mega yacht marina at Museum Pointe, fearing the development could displace the area’s cultural heritage and the St. Lucie County Regional History Museum.

The Port of Fort Pierce master plan draft for 2026 calls for replacing the existing area at Museum Pointe with large floating docks designed for mega yachts, along with a clubhouse, an event center and a water taxi connecting to Harbour Pointe to the north. The plan also proposes relocating the history museum.

Terry Howard, a passionate advocate for St. Lucie County’s history, expressed disbelief over the proposed changes.

“This is a gem for the area, and I just can’t believe they want to put mega yachts here,” he said. “The museum, it’s our culture. It’s the center for our culture for this county.”

In a statement, St. Lucie County said that no plans have been approved and feedback from the board will dictate future changes, modifications and/or clarifications to the draft document.

Howard has started a petition opposing the proposed marina, hoping to raise awareness and preserve the location and its natural surroundings.

“This is just a really fantastic place, and our history is capsulized in this museum here,” he said.

The draft of the master plan is expected to go before the county commission Aug. 11.
