A woman has been sentenced to nearly a year in jail after Hillsborough County detectives say she was caught on camera throwing a dog onto the asphalt twice and kicking the animal.
Imania Davis, 33, was charged with six counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Davis accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 364 days in the Hillsborough County Jail, with 85 days of credit for time already served.
She was also sentenced to 48 months of probation and 100 hours of community service.
As part of her plea agreement, Davis is prohibited from living in a home with animals or owning any animals.
On April 30 around 8:20 p.m., Real Time Crime Center cameras captured Davis throwing the Maltese-mix dog in the area of 11th Street and East 127th Avenue, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said the video also showed Davis kicking the dog.
Deputies responded and took the dog to a veterinarian, where he was treated for a broken front leg and received emergency medical care.
Despite efforts from the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center and veterinary staff, officials said the 1-year-old dog later died during surgery.
