Miami-Dade County Public Schools is one step closer to selecting its next superintendent, and on Wednesday, board members are expected to vote between two finalists.
The two finalists are Rafael Villalobos, the district’s South Region superintendent, and Ernie Lozano, Broward County Public Schools Chief Human Resources Officer.
Villalobos and Lozana emerged as the two frontrunners from a pool of six semifinalists.
The board is scheduled to hold public interviews on Wednesday morning, and then a vote is expected to happen.
Current superintendent, Dr. Jose Dotres, is in the last year of his contract.
Dotres has been leading the nation’s third-largest school district since 2022.
