Jacksonville police searching for owner of abandoned dog found ‘extremely malnourished’

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the dog was also found covered in its own feces.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help identifying the owner of a dog that investigators say was abandoned and found “extremely malnourished” earlier this month.

According to JSO, the dog was left in a crate without food and water for days.

On July 1, JSO said a Chevrolet pulled into a parking space at a church off Philips Highway, dropped off the dog in a crate, and drove away. The sheriff’s office did not identify the church in its Facebook post.

Three days later, a church employee found the dog, JSO said.

“It was clear the dog had been left without food or water; it was covered in its own feces,” JSO said in its post. “An animal cruelty exam revealed the dog was extremely malnourished; the dog is now under extensive recovery to return to health.”
