PORT ST. LUCIE – Two men fleeing from Port St. Lucie Police at a high rate of speed on Southwest Becker Road, Port St. Lucie were apprehended soon after abandoning the vehicle on July 23, according to a Port St. Lucie Police Facebook posting.
Officers tried to stop a white Acura after officers saw multiple traffic violations and signs of impaired driving, according to the Facebook posting.
Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated to nearly 80 mph in a 45 mph zone on Southwest Becker Road, according to the Facebook posting.
A caller to 911 reported seeing the men, later identified as Joseph Gary Harris, 42, and Bryan Shawn Baker, 46, who left the car in a driveway on the 900 block of Southwest Idol Avenue, Port St. Lucie.
Using the department’s K9 and drone teams, police were able to locate the two men — one found on the roof of an occupied home, according to the Facebook posting.
They were then taken into custody without incident.
Harris was charged with fleeing and eluding an officer; burglary of an occupied dwelling; resisting an officer without violence; loitering or prowling. He is being held on a $27,000 bond as of July 30 on those charges, according to the jail web site.
