Weekend closure of U.S. 301 between Harney, Williams roads in Tampa

U.S. 301 will close Friday through Monday under I-75 for construction.

TAMPA, Fla. — A full road closure of U.S. 301 in Tampa will be in effect Friday through Monday, FDOT Tampa Bay says.

Crews will be performing overhead bridge work on I-75 above U.S. 301 between Harney Road and Williams Road from 8:30 p.m. Friday to 5.30 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.

FDOT says there will be message boards and temporary signage to guide drivers traveling through the detour route using Harney Road and Williams Road.

Sections of U.S. 301 will remain open to local traffic during this closure, including side streets and driveways.

This road work is part of the I-75 widening project from the Tampa Bypass Canal to Fowler Avenue, which will add a lane to the northbound and southbound highways and replace the bridges over U.S. 301, according to FDOT Tampa Bay.

“To construct the project, heavy machinery will be used during daytime and nighttime hours and at times, may produce noise, vibration, and require the use of bright lights during nighttime work,” FDOT’s website reads.

Construction for this project is estimated to finish in 2029.

FDOT says that road work requiring lane closures will happen overnight between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

“Motorists are reminded to slow down, stay alert, and drive safely through the work zone,” FDOT Tampa Bay said.
