Skin cancer is often easier to treat when detected early, making awareness, prevention, and regular skin checks important parts of a healthy routine.
Tampa General Hospital is inviting Palm Beach County residents to learn more during “Spot It Early: Is Your Skin Telling You Something?,” a free community event presented in collaboration with Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
The program will help attendees recognize potential signs of skin cancer, understand ways to protect their skin and learn about available diagnostic and treatment options. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions during a panel discussion featuring physicians affiliated with Tampa General Hospital, including specialists practicing in Palm Beach County.
Panelists will include medical oncologist Sanjay Awasthi, MD; radiation oncologist X. Scott Chen, MD, PhD; surgical oncologist Kimmerle “KC” Cohen, MD, FACS; and dermatologist C. Nicole Hawkins, MD, FRCPC, DABD.

The educational session comes at an important time for South Florida residents, who experience year-round sun exposure. Using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, seeking shade and monitoring the skin for changes can help reduce risk and encourage earlier detection.
Since 2020, Tampa General Hospital has expanded its network of medical services throughout Palm Beach and Martin counties, providing local patients with access to advanced care supported by academic medicine.
“Spot It Early: Is Your Skin Telling You Something?,” is set for August 25, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, 14200 U.S. Highway 1 in Juno Beach.
