PUTNMAN COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials with the North Florida Land Trust said that 162 acres of land is now permanently preserved in Putnam County.
The land has been preserved following a $400,000 purchase by the North Florida Land Trust and their partners, from the Currie family.
The Currie family used the land for hunting and outdoor recreation, providing upkeep through prescribed burnings.
Officials say the land is surrounded by already protected land in the Marjorie Harris Cross Florida Greenway, and fills the gap in a priority preservation area by the North Florida Land Trust.
The land purchased is home to wetlands and the critically endangered gopher tortoise.
