Man, 86, dies in two-car crash in Port St. Lucie
He failed to yield the right-of-way at an intersection, investigation determines
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
The Port St. Lucie Police Department is investigating after an 86-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash.
Officers responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Southwest Savona Boulevard and Southwest Lawndale Avenue, east of Interstate 95.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2026 Honda HR-V, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was traveling northbound on Southwest Savona Boulevard approaching the intersection with SW Lawndale Avenue.
A 2006 Hyundai Elantra, driven by 86-year-old Marie R. Martin, was traveling westbound near the stop sign on Southwest Lawndale Avenue.
Investigators determined that Martin entered the intersection and failed to yield the right-of-way to the northbound Honda, resulting in the Honda striking the driver’s side of the Hyundai. This caused the Honda to T-bone the Hyundai.

Martin was extricated by St. Lucie Fire Rescue and was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital with critical injuries. Martin later succumbed to her injuries.
The 17-year-old driver was not injured in the crash.
