TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Last summer, Ricky Bell took over the Leon football program, a veteran coach with a goal to get the Lions back on track.
The Lions are tasked with the goal of replacing quarterbacl Brooks Warmack, but Bell said he has a good competition for their new QB1. Besides Warmack, the majority of this team returns. Last year, Bell said they only had four seniors that saw significant time on the field. This year, that number will be closer to 15.
He said nothing beats experience, and they have a lot of it at receiver on on the defensive line, now they just have to focus on performing on Friday nights.
“If we play well and play hard I think we’re good enough to possibly make the playoffs, but we have to do it,” said Bell. “You can’t talk about it, you have to do it on the field. I always believe anybody can be beat on beat on any given day. They can be beat if your team is ready. We’ve got good senior leadership this year and we also have some good juniors that are coming along. They were sophomores, they started last year. They’re back in their positions and playing a lot better.”
The regular season starts August 21st for the Lions when they host Fernandina Beach.
