JACKSONVILLE – These are good times for Jakobi Meyers.
He knows the scheme – really, really knows it – and he is surrounded by a balanced receiving corps and an experienced offense. Mostly, he understands the whys and the details of what he is being asked to do.
That’s different from his first Jaguars season – and it’s a major difference.
“That’s huge for me,” he said.
Meyers, who joined the Jaguars via trade with the Las Vegas Raiders last November, spoke to the media Sunday shortly after Day 4 2026 Training Camp at the Miller Electric Center. Offensive coordinator Grant Udinksi spoke, too, saying of Meyers: “It was really impressive to see him come in last year and pick up the system and his role as quickly as he did.”
Meyers, an eighth-year NFL veteran who caught 42 passes for 483 yards and three touchdowns in nine games with the Jaguars last season, laughed Sunday at the notion that he knew the offense in-depth immediately last season.
“I definitely didn’t,” he said. “I’m not going to lie. I told somebody the other day, ‘I was just copy and pasting.’ They gave me the answers. I put them down. And that’s what it was.
“Now I understand why they call certain plays, what they’re looking for with certain plays. And that helped me with my routes a lot because I can get to the right spot at the right time. I think that’s ultimately what [quarterback] Trevor [Lawrence] needs out of us.”
