A Florida voter referendum that would slash residential property taxes faces mounting opposition from diverse groups and only tepid support from its original champion: Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

At least three groups representing public safety professionals, municipal organizations, and policy think tanks have formed in the past month to defeat constitutional Amendment 3, also known as “Save Our Homes from Excessive Property Taxes.” The Florida Democratic Party announced its opposition too, with party chair Nikki Fried calling it “a scam that would either raise other taxes on working families or rob their communities of essential services.”
