Jim Boyd named Florida Senate president designate

  • October 15, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – Sen. Jim Boyd was named president-designate of the Florida Senate during a ceremony in the Senate Chamber on Tuesday afternoon, positioning the Bradenton Republican to lead the chamber after next year’s elections.

Boyd will succeed current Senate President Ben Albritton and serve alongside Rep. Sam Garrison, who will lead the House during the 2027 and 2028 legislative sessions.

The incoming Senate president said fiscal responsibility will remain a top priority under his leadership, emphasizing the need for continued oversight of state spending despite Florida’s strong financial position.

“I think we always should look at the way we spend taxpayers’ money,” Sen. Boyd said. “We fortunately have had good financials as a state, but we always have to pay attention to our expenditures. Coming up with a budget forecast we are facing for the next several years, I think it’s more important.”

Boyd’s appointment comes as Florida prepares for upcoming budget challenges and legislative priorities that will shape the state’s direction through the remainder of the decade.
