We have covered the story of animal shelters being at full capacity already this season, but one new business in Jacksonville is helping support local shelters by giving people a chance to enjoy the company of shelter cats.
It’s called Cool Cats Café and Lounge here in Jacksonville, and it’s collaborating with Onslow County Animal Services to help clear the shelters.
The cat café officially opened last Friday, welcoming eight shelter cats into its lounge area.
Since then, seven cats have been adopted, and today the café welcomed eight more from the shelter.
Co-owner Autumn Rubio says the café is a family project, and they have big plans for the future.
We do plan to have adoption events for other rescues to come in, maybe set up here and offer them a chance to put up their kitties for adoption as well.
This is just the beginning for the café.
While it currently offers pre-packaged snacks and drinks, the long-term goal is to add a full coffee bar.
For now, though, the focus is on helping shelter cats find their forever homes.
All proceeds go back to the animal shelter.
