The Doral West Dade Woman’s Club (DWDWC) is working throughout the summer to support important community causes — from collecting monetary donations for Global Empowerment Mission’s (GEM) relief efforts in Venezuela to planning an exciting fundraising trip on Aug. 22. Members also are preparing to celebrate the club’s first anniversary.
As DWDWC organizes and participates in various activities, it continues to join forces with the Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) on several projects. The two clubs are sharing GEM’s QR code to solicit financial contributions, which are currently needed more than donations of physical items.
DWDWC also was invited to the 40th anniversary celebration of Casa Linda Tile & Marble, where owner Steven Mussolino prominently displayed a large poster produced by the club to encourage guests to support GEM’s humanitarian relief efforts.
In another joint endeavor, DWDWC and CGWC are helping promote GFWC Florida state president Terry Reese’s special project to raise funds for scholarships for aspiring firefighters and help offset the high cost of their required gear. Firefighter certification can cost between $10,000 and $15,000 — and that does not include the additional expense of protective equipment.
As part of the fundraising effort, GFWC Florida plans to produce and sell a calendar featuring photographs submitted by districts across the state. Through member Ana Lam’s community contacts, the Coral Gables club arranged a canine CPR training session that will provide a possible photograph for the calendar while also supporting the project’s fundraising goals.
DWDWC members also will participate in the Mall Crawl at Miami International Mall on Aug. 15, 9-11 a.m., to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. Everyone is encouraged to join the club’s team. For information about participating, contact DWDWC member Arely Ruiz at arely@arelypr.com.
Following the success of its April bus trip, DWDWC is planning another adventure on Aug. 22 to experience “Colosseum: The Legendary Arena” and “Napoleon: The Immersive Saga” at South Florida PBS headquarters in Boynton Beach. The always-entertaining Steven Bradley of Vivo Sports & Social will provide an extra dose of fun throughout the trip.
Once again, the club will partner with several nonprofit organizations and share proceeds from the fundraiser. Partners include the Doral Bar Association, thanks to its president, Ivette Petkovich, and the Coral Gables Woman’s Club, represented by fundraising co-chairs Carmen Suarez and Rita Tennyson. Finally, at a recent meeting, DWDWC members welcomed Natalia Lopez, a local businesswoman who is competing for the title of Miss Florida. At more than 35 years of age, Lopez is proving that it is never too late to pursue a dream. Members were inspired by her story and hope to support her throughout her journey.
