TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Tallahassee Police Department welcomed its newest officers Tuesday during a swearing-in ceremony at City Hall, adding to a growing number of hires during the agency’s bicentennial year.
With the latest class, the department has sworn in 44 new officers during its 200th year, marking what the department described as continued investment in recruiting new public servants while celebrating two centuries of service to the Tallahassee community.
The new class includes a legacy officer, an officer with prior emergency medical services experience, a former collegiate athlete and an officer with previous law enforcement experience in Georgia.
“Each of these officers brings unique experiences and a strong commitment to public service,” Chief Lawrence Revell said. “As we celebrate 200 years of policing in Tallahassee, it is encouraging to welcome the next generation of officers who will help carry our department forward and continue building strong relationships throughout our community.”
After the Aug. 5 ceremony, the officers will begin the next phase of field training before serving residents and visitors throughout Tallahassee.
