Palm Beach County deputies shoot and kill 18-year-old engaged in violent struggle with his father
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. —
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting tonight off of Vista Parkway in Palm Beach County.
Deputies responded to a home at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday for a welfare check on an 18-year-old whose mother had reported was acting strangely. The home is in the Emerald Dunes Golf Club community.
Once inside the home, deputies observed the 18-year-old holding a knife and engaged in a violet struggle with his father. According to Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, who held a press conference near the scene, deputies first tried using a taser to break up the fight but it did not function properly. When it appeared that the son was about to stab his father, a deputy opened fire.

The 18-year-old died. Two deputies have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, which is standard procedure in deputy-involved shootings.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
