JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Live music, local food and dancing in the street will help kick off Labor Day weekend in downtown Jacksonville.
The city’s Rock the Block celebration returns from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, along New Bridge Street.
Zach Harrington will open the musical lineup from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The Phoebes will turn up the energy with rock and blues from 7 to 9 p.m.
Guests can arrive hungry and choose from a variety of local food trucks. Salty Turtle Beer Company and Shortway Brewing Company will serve craft beer and wine.
A vendor market will stretch along the street with handmade items, unique goods and other local finds.
Anyone looking to dance to a different beat can join the silent disco. Participants receive headphones and can choose their own music channel and volume before showing off their best moves.
Free transportation to and from the event is available by calling 910-938-RIDE.
Guests should bring chairs if they want to relax during the performances. Outside alcohol and coolers are not permitted.
Jacksonville Recreation and Parks is also warning vendors about potential scams. People should not send money to anyone on social media claiming to have vendor spaces available. Official communication will come directly from the department by phone or email.
