You read that right: a local electronic music artist is attempting a Guinness World Record for completing a 50K run while performing a DJ set.

As part of what he’s calling BPMATHON, Eddy Palermo is combining his love for music and endurance sport along The Underline this weekend, and the public is invited to cheer him on! On Saturday, August 8, he’ll run 50 kilometers (over 31 miles) while pushing a custom-built DJ rig made from a modified stroller. The event is estimated to take a whopping seven hours and he’ll be spinning continuous tunes the whole time.

Having completed seven Ironmans and seven marathons between 2020 and 2025, Palermo is no stranger to pushing limits. He was born in Miami to Cuban and Italian parents, discovering his love for the genre as a teenager at Ultra Music Festival. As he got older, he’d spend time at Club Space and build a career in events, sales and entrepreneurship. With all those completed endurance races under his belt (and non-stop dancing at Club Space, we imagine), it’s only natural that BPMATHON would be the next step.

“The idea came about when I saw videos online of people running 5Ks while DJing, and I said to myself, ‘Why not run 50K?’” he shared. “This is a real challenge for me because just running 50K without DJing is difficult, and just DJing for seven hours without running is difficult. Doing both at the same time will definitely push me to a new limit.”

Running and DJing for a cause

But it’s not just about setting a world record. BPMATHON is raising funds for Friends of The Underline, supporting their mission to transform public spaces and get Miamians outside and active. The event aims to inspire people to step away from their screens and prioritize their physical and mental wellbeing.
