PORT ST. LUCIE – Port St. Lucie Police is investigating the death of a 77-year-old man whose body was found in a pond in the 1400 block of Southwest Mockingbird Drive, Port St. Lucie on Aug. 7
Officers responded to the home of Michael Joseph Kramer at that address at about 1:18 p.m., in reference to a missing adult, according to police reports.
During the investigation, officers learned Kramer was last seen by his wife inside their home at about 10 p.m., Aug. 6. When she awoke at about 7 a.m., the following morning, Kramer was no longer in the home, according to police reports.
Kramer’s personal belongings, including his shoes, wallet, and cellphone, were inside the home. In her search, his wife contacted local hospitals before contacting law enforcement at approximately 1:18 p.m. to report him missing.
Officers began searching the surrounding neighborhood and, during the canvass, found an unresponsive person in a pond directly across the street from the residence at about 2 p.m. The individual and clothing matched the description provided for Kramer, according to police reports.
The police dive team responded to the scene and recovered Kramer from the water near the shoreline of the pond. He was subsequently confirmed as dead.
At this time, the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation. There are no known indications of foul play at this preliminary stage of the investigation.

The police department encourages the public to contact law enforcement promptly when a person is believed to be missing. “Timely reporting allows officers to begin investigative and search efforts as quickly as possible,” the department said in a press release.
