Early voting for Florida’s Primary kicks off Saturday in most of the state’s 67 counties.
Supervisor of Elections Offices are bracing for voters to cast ballots in several statewide races, such as Governor, U.S. Senator, Chief Financial Officer and Agriculture Commissioner.
Most races in the Primary are closed and available only to those with party affiliations listed on their voter registrations. Voters with no party designation can still cast ballots in nonpartisan local and regional races, Primaries limited to members of one party only, General Elections or Special Elections taking place this month.
Most counties will not permit early voting past Aug. 15. While many start their early voting process Saturday, some 18 counties launched early balloting earlier this week. A dozen counties also extend the option to Aug. 16.
Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott said his Office has nearly two dozen early voting locations to make sure it’s convenient for voters to have access.
“We encourage voters to make a plan, vote early and bring a friend or family member with them to one of the 21 locations opened throughout the county. The beauty about Early Voting is that it gives voters the flexibility to cast their ballot at a time and place that is most convenient for them,” Scott said.
Most regular voting precincts are not open for early voting, though some are. But most Supervisor of Elections Offices offer multiple places to cast early ballots. Those looking for locations should go to the website of their local Supervisor.
Election Day for the Primary is Aug. 18. The option to request a mail-in ballot has already ended in all counties. The return due date for mail-in voters varies from county to county.
The early voting process will be repeated in October in the run-up to the General Election, which is slated for Nov. 3.
