TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – If there’s one thing the summer months teach us, it’s that Tallahassee is really good at youth baseball, and this summer is no different. One year after both the 13’s and the 14’s both won Babe Ruth Series titles, both teams are playing for another one.
That means this year’s group of 14U All-Stars are looking to go back-to-back. Close to ten of the guys on this year’s 14’s squad were on that 13’s team that won it last year, and that’s a feeling that doesn’t go away.
That experience should make all the difference this year. The guys kick off the World Series Saturday in Eagle Pass, Texas. They’ve been challenged and they have that big stage experience, and head coach Bruce Williams likes where they’re at heading in to this weekend.
“We got good pitching, defense, our hitting is pretty thorough,” he said. “I think we’ll step up a little bit more in the hitting category. That’s probably where we need to focus a little bit, but our pitching is really good heading into the tournament.”
“We have good pitching, good defense, and we can hit,” added Parker Pennington, who plays for the team. “We have a ton of confidence going there and we are going to try and win it.”
Pool play begins Saturday for the boys from Tallahassee. Game one is set for 9:00 in the morning against Australia.
