We’ve got some exciting Universal Orlando news to share, and Epic Universe fans may find themselves especially eager.
Dark Universe Portal
It’s been rumored for awhile that an Epic Universe expansion is on the way, and now, this new approved patent is another notch in the right direction. While this patent was filed a little while ago, it was only recently approved, and from the look of it, it’s possible it could be for a new ride in Dark Universe.
The newly approved permit is for a water ride that would run quite differently from the vast majority of other theme park rides. Instead of relying on tracks, chains, and/or other mechanical components to keep the ride moving, this ride would use fluid propulsion to guide its vehicles through the course.As mechanical elements are often what causes pinch points and safety concerns during loading and unloading for many other water rides, having none of those features could make running the attraction easier. Gates within the trough also also noted to potentially slow or completely stop the water flow, which would give operators much more exact control over vehicle movement throughout the attraction.
New Patent
The vehicle system displayed in the patent has a vehicle system that includes a trough with a first fluid inside of it. The vehicle itself would have a propulsion assembly which would have an adjustable controllable surface to engage the first fluid. The vehicle further includes a propulsion assembly, and the propulsion assembly includes a controllable surface to engage a flow of a second fluid flowing in a trough.

The patent also notes the possibility of the ride vehicle moving on land as well, which could mean a combination of a water and land based ride. While the patent itself doesn’t list what land the mentioned attraction would go in, or if it’ll even come to fruition for an existing Universal park, many Universal fans (ourselves included) immediately connected the Creature of the Black Lagoon, a truly iconic Classic Monster, with the possibility of a water ride. You can see the monster briefly in Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, but many fans would love to see the monster get more time to shine.
New Patent
An approved patent doesn’t mean that an attraction will come to life, and that’s very important to remember. It just means that, if Universal wanted to create a ride with this ride system, it’s been given the all-clear on a base level.
