TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – Florida lawmakers will consider legislation next year to officially designate October 14 as Charlie Kirk Day throughout the state, following today’s congressional recognition of the same date.
Kirk, a conservative activist, was shot and killed on a university campus in Utah last month. His death has prompted several legislative proposals in Florida aimed at honoring his memory and activism.
The proposed legislation extends beyond the annual day of recognition. Multiple bills have been filed in the Florida Legislature that would rename roads at every state university in Kirk’s honor. Additionally, lawmakers are considering renaming a portion of Southwest 107th Avenue in Miami-Dade County.
New College of Florida has announced plans to install a statue of Kirk on its campus, further cementing the institution’s commitment to honoring the activist’s legacy.
The timing of today’s congressional recognition coincides with the proposed annual date Florida lawmakers hope to establish, creating a unified national and state-level tribute to Kirk’s work in conservative activism.
