ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — An 84-year-old man was killed in a crash while riding a bike in St. Pete Saturday afternoon, police say.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the crash occurred at 12:15 p.m. on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North.

Police said the bicyclist was traveling north in the marked bicycle lane approaching the 1400 block when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the bike.

The bicycle crossed out of the lane and hit the front passenger corner of a Toyota Corolla that was also traveling north.

The victim was taken to the Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the Corolla stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, which is ongoing.
