Tallahassee police remind drivers that photo enforcement will operate throughout the school day, including 30 minutes before and after.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Drivers traveling through Tallahassee school zones will need to pay close attention to their speed as the city’s School Zone Speed Enforcement Program begins full enforcement Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The Tallahassee Police Department announced there will be no warning period before enforcement begins.
Under the program, photo enforcement will be active throughout the entire school day, not just during the traditional morning arrival and afternoon dismissal periods.
Police said enforcement will also operate 30 minutes before the school day begins and 30 minutes after it ends.
No warning period
The department’s announcement emphasizes that motorists should be prepared for enforcement immediately when the program takes effect Aug. 12.
Automated speed enforcement systems use cameras and other technology to detect vehicles traveling above the applicable speed threshold. Potential violations are captured for review under the program.
The goal is to encourage drivers to slow down in areas where children are walking, biking, crossing streets or entering and leaving school campuses.
Police urge drivers to watch their speed
With students returning to classrooms, motorists can expect more school buses, pedestrians and traffic around Tallahassee campuses.
Drivers should pay particular attention to posted school zone signs and speed limits and allow additional time for their commutes.
The Tallahassee Police Department’s message to motorists ahead of Wednesday’s launch is clear: full enforcement begins Aug. 12, and drivers should not expect a warning period first.
