A Latin American spot known for its Venezuelan fare is closing in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood.
La Latina, which opened in 2011 at 3509 NE Second Ave., announced the sad news that Sunday was its final day of service on social media.
“After 15 years, we’ll be closing our doors here at La Latina,” read a post on the restaurant’s Instagram account. “Thank you for embracing us as your neighborhood arepera since 2011 and allowing us to make this our home away from Venezuela.”
Recently the restaurant had been involved in collecting supplies and money for Venezuelan earthquake relief, with $1 of its popular pabellon arepas going to relief efforts for the month of July. The restaurant also collected supplies like bottled water, blankets, first aid supplies and basic medications for donation.
Created by the same team behind the wildly popular pizza spot Miami Slice — co- owners Alejandro Díaz, Alberto Zanetti, and Jose Cardenas — La Latina promised to “live on through our sister Tina,” referencing the group’s other restaurant, Tina in the Gables, which opened in 2024.
Located at 4700 S. Le Jeune Road, Tina is an all-day café that specializes in the arepas made famous at La Latina as well as brunch favorites like brioche French toast, fried soft shell crab sandwiches and picanha.
The group is also preparing to open a second Miami Slice location this week in Coconut Grove.
