Skeletal remains were found off of International Drive near Walt Disney World over the weekend, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of I-Drive and Continental Gateway Drive near the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites and the Orlando World Center Marriott.

Two individuals had discovered the remains as they walked in the area, the sheriff’s office said Monday. Much of the surrounding vicinity is wooded.

Zane Gambrill, a resident at the Cortland Gateway World apartments just south of the intersection, told the Orlando Sentinel he saw about 20 police vehicles in the area over the weekend, along with a forensics van and a tent set up by law enforcement.

He said the police activity appeared focused on the wooded area outside the apartment complex. He said law enforcement remained at the scene from Saturday night through Sunday morning, and that some briefly returned Monday morning.

Deputies have not yet identified the remains or determined a cause of death. The sheriff’s office did not provide any other details.
