A Jacksonville man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attack that seriously injured a DoorDash driver earlier this month, according to newly filed court records.
Stanley Cornelius Shockley, 44, was arrested Monday, Aug. 10, and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. The magistrate’s order identifies the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office as the investigating agency.
Court documents allege Shockley assaulted Christen Phillips with an unknown blunt object with the intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. The offense date listed in the court records is Aug. 1.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office previously said Phillips was stopped at the intersection of Western Boulevard and Gum Branch Road around 1:19 a.m. Aug. 1 when the vehicle in front of her did not move after the traffic light turned green.
After Phillips arrived at a delivery location in the Shamrock Drive area, investigators said the suspect approached her and struck her in the head before leaving.

Phillips previously told News 12 she was knocked unconscious by the attack.
“When the guy hit me in the head and I was knocked out, I believe he thought I was dead, left me for dead,” Phillips said. “It’s a miracle that I woke up.”
Despite her injuries, Phillips was able to drive herself to Onslow Memorial Hospital. She was later transferred to a Wilmington hospital, where she underwent brain surgery.
Phillips said she suffered multiple skull fractures and a fractured cheekbone.
As investigators searched for a suspect, the sheriff’s office released information describing a dark-colored Range Rover with silver or gray alloy rims. Deputies also released a description of the person they were seeking and asked the public for surveillance video and other information.
The sheriff’s office had previously identified another person believed to be involved but later said that person was ruled out as a suspect as the investigation developed.
The new court records identify Shockley as living on Shamrock Drive in Jacksonville.

A release order filed Monday states Shockley’s release was not authorized at the time the order was issued. The court also ordered him not to contact, threaten, harm, harass or assault Phillips.
Shockley was ordered held at the Onslow County Jail pending a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday morning.
