The Martin County School District is rolling out a brand-new way for families to customize how their children learn. It’s called ‘flexible education’ and the initiative offers what district officials call an “a-la-carte” approach to education.
Whether a student wants a traditional school day, a combination of virtual and in-person learning, or a fully online schedule, district leaders say this new program gives families more choice than ever before.
At the heart of the initiative is Martin County Virtual School.
It uses the same curriculum as Florida Virtual School, but Martin County teachers teach the classes. There’s also in-person location for live instruction, tutoring, testing, and extra support. Students can even take some courses online, while taking their remaining classes on campus.
The program is also available to home education, private school, and charter school students. Students can use it to recover credits or get ahead.
District leaders say the goal is to give every student an option that fits their learning style.
“Education is transforming. Parents have choices now that they’ve never had. Students have choices now that they’ve never had. And it’s our duty as the school district here in Martin County to provide not only every option that families are looking for, but provide it at the highest level,” said Daniel Moore, the Executive Director of Academic Services for Martin County Schools.
