TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Tallahassee police officers are adding a new tool to their patrols after completing specialized bicycle training designed to help them work safely in the community.
Members of the Tallahassee Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing and Problem-Solving Squad recently completed the International Police Mountain Bike Association Police Cyclist Course. The training is intended to help officers safely and effectively use bicycles while conducting law enforcement activities and serving the community.
The COPPS Squad regularly uses bicycles to reach areas traditional patrol vehicles cannot, including trails and heavily traveled pedestrian areas. The department said bicycles can help officers in a range of situations, from locating missing endangered persons and conducting patrols to engaging with residents and addressing quality-of-life concerns.
