TAMPA, Fla. – Traffic on the Howard Frankland Bridge into Tampa has been jammed this week as drivers get used to a new traffic pattern at Exit 39.
FDOT changed the exit to SR-60 West/Veterans Expwy/Tampa Airport on Monday night. Drivers now exit to SR-60 West a half mile after the old exit.
The exit to 60 East/Kennedy Blvd/Westshore Blvd has not changed. However, that exit has seen extra delays this week as drivers get used to the new pattern.

FDOT now has signs telling drivers heading to SR-60 West to take their second right turn.
In addition, there are overnight closures there for drivers to know about.
The northbound I-275 Exit 39 ramp S.R. 60 East will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the following nights:
• Monday, August 10, through Wednesday, August 12
• Sunday, August 16, and Monday, August 17
During the nighttime closures, motorists traveling to Kennedy Boulevard should continue north on I-275, exit at Lois Avenue, travel south on Lois Avenue, and turn west onto Kennedy Boulevard.
The Kennedy Boulevard/S.R. 60 East ramp closures will occur overnight only. Outside the listed closure hours, motorists will continue to use Exit 39 to access Kennedy Boulevard/S.R. 60 East.
Motorists should allow additional travel time, remain alert for changing traffic conditions, and follow posted signs when traveling through the interchange. Drivers are reminded to use caution, slow down, and avoid distractions in the construction area.
The temporary configuration is set to remain in place until fall of 2028. It’s for the ongoing Westshore Interchange project.
