MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A crash survivor who was pulled from the wreckage by Martin County firefighters returned months later to thank the crew who helped save his life.
In the early morning hours of July 5, Taylor Cantin was the sole survivor of a devastating head-on crash on State Road 710 near Southwest Fox Brown Road, according to Martin County Fire Rescue.
Cantin’s truck suffered major front-end damage in the collision, leaving him trapped.
Firefighters with MCFR’s Station 24 say they responded quickly and extricated Cantin from the crushed vehicle. Moments after, LifeStar flew him to the hospital, where he was treated for traumatic injuries.
Firefighters wrote that calls like this often end once a patient is safely transferred to medical care. They don’t always get the chance to learn what happens next.

But Cantin recently saw a Martin County Fire Rescue open house flyer and knew he wanted to return to thank the firefighters who helped save his life.
Over the weekend, Cantin reunited with the Station 24 crew, creating an emotional moment firefighters said reminded them why they do what they do.
For the crew, the reunion offered a rare chance to see Cantin beyond the emergency call and learn more about the person they had worked to rescue.
Firefighter say Cantin is now on the road to recovery, and firefighters are cheering him on every step of the way.
